Clements' commitment to expatriates and education continues with its third annual youth scholarship contest. The 2011 contest's exclusive use of social media allowed expatriate students from across the globe to participate in the contest.
Clements Worldwide, an international insurance solutions company, awarded a combined $10,000 scholarship prize to six expatriate students at the conclusion of a record 2011 Expat Youth Scholarship(EYS) contest, where more than 8,200 voters across the world – the highest individual participation ever – helped choose this year’s winners.
Clements, a long-time sponsor of expatriate-oriented and educational initiatives such as EYS, launched this year’s scholarship contest on Facebook as part of its social media efforts, in order to reach out to as many students living outside of their home country as possible. The contest’s challenge immediately went viral, and more than 200 inspirational video entries featuring a favorite thing about the student’s host country were accepted for consideration since May.
The resulting international participation to select the winner among 12 finalists across two age groups, presented for public voting on the website page, surpassed all imaginable expectations: student engagement skyrocketed and more than ten times the expected number of voters cast their online ballot this year.
“We’re absolutely amazed at the sheer number of participants and the high-quality, inspirational, and very uplifting nature of the work submitted in this year’s Expat Youth Scholarship contest,” said Sergio Sanchez, Director of Marketing at Clements Worldwide. “Clements is extremely proud to continue making educational contributions every year to the talented contest award recipients selected by popular votes. But for everyone who appreciates the wonderful and inspiring material presented by these young students this year – including our distinguished panel of external judges for the selection of the 12 finalists, and all of us at Clements Worldwide – every participant is definitely a winner.”
Clements is pleased to announce the scholarship winners in the contest’s two age groups, with their individual final tally, as certified at the conclusion of the online voting period:
2011 Clements Worldwide’s Expat Youth Scholarship Winners:
Ages 12-15
1st Place Award Winner ($3,000): Julian Mackay “Bison to Bolshoi” (792 Votes)
2nd Place Award Winner ($1,500): John Mollick “Living in Alsace, France” (623 Votes)
3rd Place Award Winner ($500): Christy Shao “We’re in China” (191 Votes)
Ages 16-18
1st Place Award Winner ($3,000): Luke Turley “Brussels” (1910 Votes)
2nd Place Award Winner ($1,500): Reyna Mcghie “Eat, Sleep, Bike” (1833 Votes)
3rd Place Award Winner ($500): Brianna Schoon “A Taste of my Favorite Thing in China” (665 Votes)
