Treating A Patient At Saudi German Hospital Group After 10 Years Of Suffering

Professor Ibrahim Zaiton , consultant oral and Maxillofacial surgeon , treated a 25-year-old patient.

She complained of temporomandibular joint disc adhesion and jaw- opening limitation. For 10 years, she is fed a liquid diet. The cause of her condition was local trauma. Many failed surgeries were performed. A 3-hour surgery was performed at SGH. It involved removal of bone calcification.

After surgery, the patient restored her ability to move her jaw properly. Currently, the patient undergoes physical therapy to rehabilitate her jaw. Mohammed Alanesi, consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon and surgical physician assistant, said that the surgery was complex because calcification occurred in area which involved nerves and arteries of the brain and face.
