Stretching from Northern Ireland to the south coast of England, the acquisitions are the latest in a string of purchases for Bupa. All have completed in the last six months, taking the total number of acquisitions in the last year to 23.
Speaking of the news Gabriela Pueyo, General Manager for Bupa Dental Care, said: “While we have ambitious growth plans, it’s really important that we’re bringing on practices that share our high standards. With their commitment to customers and clinical excellence, I’m delighted to welcome these latest teams to the Bupa Dental Care family, and look forward to supporting their continued success.”
Amongst the recent announcements are b-dental in Islington – a full private practice which becomes Bupa’s first in north London. Bolstering its presence on the south coast, it has also acquired the Alderney Dental Practice in Poole, and Wimborne Total Dental Care.
One of Bupa’s more unusual acquisitions, the appropriately named Old Church Dental Practice occupies a grade I-listed building in Halifax which still boasts stained glass windows and original stonework. Meanwhile, in nearby Leeds Bupa also completed on the King Lane Dental Care which offers a mix of private and NHS dentistry.
Elsewhere, Bupa purchased the Hospital Lane Dental and Implant Clinic in Chatham, Kent. A modern and purpose-built site, it features eight state-of-the-art surgeries along with Trios scanners and a CT scanner, supported by a team of 40 colleagues.
In Ireland the acquisitions include Belfast Orthodontics, which operates two practices in Northern Ireland, offering referrals for both NHS and private patients. Within the Republic of Ireland, the company acquired Quay Dental in Galway, a modern, fully private practice with five surgeries.
In addition to the acquisitions, the company has also merged two local practices – Victoria Oral Clinic in Sutton Coldfield, and Lister House in west London – with staff and patients moving to existing Bupa sites nearby.
Gabriela continued: “As part of Bupa our clinicians get support with things like clinical governance and HR, meaning they’re free to focus on their patients, great dentistry and their own personal development.”
Tony Auger, Clinical Director for Hospital Lane Dental and Implant Clinic, added: “Since establishing the clinic in 1990, we’ve worked hard to build up a reputation for implant and specialist referral treatment.
“As part of Bupa, we’ll be able to grow the clinic as a regional referral centre. Supporting a network of corporate clinics, our specialists can create a hub for high-end treatment. With their investment and centralised resources in place, we’ll be able to focus on providing the high standard of care our patients and peers expect.”
Bupa Dental Care operates approximately 470 practices within the UK, with over 2,000 dentists and over 5,000 practice staff. It offers both NHS and private dentistry and is looking to further expand its network of practices providing a high standard of patient care. It currently operates through its Bupa Dental Care, Total Orthodontics, Platinum Dentistry, Dental Care Plus and Smiles Dental brands.
