BBC Show Reveals Travel Insurance Scams

CEGA Special Investigations will warn BBC viewers against the perils of travel insurance fraud this week - when its head of technical claims features in the new series of BBC One's Claimed and Shamed. Each episode of the programme will chronicle a range of dishonest insurance claims and is expected to attract over a million viewers.

CEGA's Simon Cook, who is an established contributor to Claimed and Shamed, will talk viewers through the intricacies of several far-fetched travel insurance claims, in a bid to deter would-be fraudsters. He will explain that his team uses a variety of sophisticated techniques to expose fraudulent claims, ranging from cognitive telephone and face-to-face interviews, to on the ground investigations overseas.

Former episodes of the series have seen Cook talking through fraudulent claims that include everything from fake hospital bills and airline tickets, to fabricated car break-ins and even deaths.

Cook says, "Insurance fraud is never a victimless crime. We are committed to reinforcing the message that insurance fraudsters will be found out, wherever they are in the world – and that we will stay one step ahead by constantly developing our global network of investigators and our detection techniques.

"By exposing invalid claims effectively on behalf of our insurer clients, we also help clients remain competitive and ensure that genuine claimants are paid more quickly than ever."

CEGA Special Investigations makes a significant contribution to the UK's travel insurance fraud savings and also investigates all areas of insurance fraud, including household, personal accident and health claims.

See Simon Cook in Claimed and Shamed at 9.15am on BBC One, on Wednesday November 22nd and Friday December 1st. It will also be available on BBC iPlayer.
