As travel restrictions begin to ease following the latest government announcement that additional countries that have been added to the green list as of yesterday, travel insurance brand ROCK Insurance Group has updated its COVID-protection products to now include NHS Test & Trace cover.
ROCK’s COVID-protection product already includes pre-departure cover for cancellation if travellers test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of their trip (even if this is at the airport) and cannot travel. It also covers emergency medical care and repatriation should they contract the virus whilst travelling.
However, these policies have now been updated to also provide cancellation cover if customers are contacted by the NHS Test and Trace system and are told they must self-isolate within 14 days prior to their departure date, including on the date their trip is due to commence, or if a member of their household receives a positive COVID-19 test result within 14 days prior to their departure date, which means that they are still required to self-isolate on the date their trip is due to commence. This is applicable for customers taking trips both in the UK and abroad.
Antony Martin, Managing Director at ROCK Insurance Group says: “In line with travel restrictions beginning to ease, we wanted to update our COVID-protection product to ensure travellers are covered should they be required to self-isolate ahead of their next trip. Likewise, we wanted to provide travel agents with the added protection in case their customers have to cancel trips for this reason. As we prepare for the travel industry to open up once again, we feel it is really important to re-instate traveller confidence by offering additional pre-departure cover for unrecoverable costs that are not covered under Package Travel Regulations. This latest product update will help drive customer confidence as travel restrictions ease, whilst further protecting the travel trade.”
For claims relating to NHS Test and Trace, customers must provide evidence of the need to self-isolate from the official NHS Test and Trace app or the NHS COVID-19 app. This should take the form of an email or text message from NHS Test and Trace or an alert from the NHS COVID-19 app.
What customers are NOT covered for:
Claims arising if a customer or a member of their household is contacted by the NHS Test & Trace system within 48 hours of purchase of their policy and the customer is required to self-isolate and unable to travel.
